Jesus and the Children
Mark 10:13-16
The disciples saw interruptions. Jesus saw the kingdom.
People are bringing little children to Jesus for him to touch and bless. The disciples rebuke them — Jesus is busy with important things, and children are a distraction. Jesus sees this and is indignant. He says: Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Then the teaching that upends everything: Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. He takes the children in his arms, places his hands on them, and blesses them. The kingdom doesn't belong to the powerful or the impressive. It belongs to those who come with empty hands and open trust.
