Job's Suffering

Job 1:1–2:13; 3:1–31:40

The best man alive lost everything — and nobody could explain why.

Job is blameless, upright, the greatest man in the East. In a single day he loses his livestock, his servants, and all ten of his children. Then his health collapses — painful sores from head to foot. His wife says: Curse God and die. Three friends arrive and sit with him in silence for seven days. Then they start talking, and that's when it gets worse. For chapter after chapter, they insist Job must have sinned — suffering must have a cause, God is just, therefore Job is guilty. Job insists he's innocent. He doesn't curse God, but he demands an audience. He wants to take God to court. He wants an answer.
