The Wedding at Cana

John 2:1-12

His first miracle wasn't raising the dead. It was saving a party.

Jesus, his mother, and his disciples are guests at a wedding in Cana. The wine runs out — a social catastrophe in first-century culture. Mary tells Jesus. His response seems dismissive: Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come. But Mary turns to the servants and says: Do whatever he tells you. Jesus points to six stone water jars — the kind used for ceremonial washing, holding twenty to thirty gallons each. Fill them with water, he says. Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet. The master tastes it and pulls the bridegroom aside: Everyone serves the good wine first, but you have saved the best until now. No fanfare. No announcement. Water becomes wine, and only the servants know.
