Gideon's 300 men
Judges 7:1-25
God said the army was too big — and kept cutting until it made no sense.
Gideon assembles 32,000 men to fight the Midianites. God says: Too many. If you win with this many, you'll think you did it yourselves. Send home anyone who's afraid. 22,000 leave. God says: Still too many. Take them to the water. Watch how they drink. Those who cup water to their mouths — keep. Those who kneel — send home. Only 300 remain. Against an army described as thick as locusts. God's battle plan: surround the camp at night. Each man gets a trumpet, an empty jar, and a torch hidden inside. At Gideon's signal, they smash the jars, blow the trumpets, and shout. The Midianites turn on each other in the chaos.
