The Sun Stands Still
Joshua 10:1-15
Joshua asked for more daylight, and the universe obliged.
Five Amorite kings form an alliance and attack Gibeon, Israel's new ally. Joshua marches all night from Gilgal and launches a surprise attack at dawn. God throws the enemy into confusion and hurls hailstones from the sky — more die from hail than from swords. But the day isn't long enough to finish the battle. Joshua does something no one had done before: he speaks to the sun. Sun, stand still over Gibeon. And the moon — stay over the Valley of Aijalon. The sun stops in the sky and doesn't set for about a full day. The text says there has never been a day like it before or since.
