Moses Strikes the Rock

Numbers 20:1-13

Forty years of faithfulness, one moment of anger, and the Promised Land slipped away.

The people are thirsty again — and again they complain. God tells Moses to speak to the rock and it will give water. But Moses is angry. He stands before the people and snaps: Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock? Then he strikes it — twice — instead of speaking to it. Water gushes out. The people drink. But God's response is devastating: Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy, you will not bring this community into the land I give them. After everything Moses endured, one act of frustrated disobedience costs him the Promised Land.
